Enrichment Fun With Coding Level 1

  • Age: 5-6 years
  • Skill Level: Beginner
  • Prerequisite: None
  • Tools Provided: Robot set with coding cards

Our Coding and Robotics programme – Fun with Coding (Level 1) introduces children to basic coding concepts and simple programming over 4 terms.

Execute Sequence of Code Using Directional Symbols

Children as young as five years old can learn coding by using their own body as a robot to execute the code such as move forward and turn right.

They then progress towards associating their movements with directional arrows (such as forward, turn left, etc.). They also learn to execute the sequence of code – first with their body and subsequently with a robot which uses a tap pen controller to read directional programming cards.

Young children not only learn the concept of coding and logical thinking, they also practise coordinating hand, eye and body movements as well as learn concepts of left and right.

Basic Coding Concepts

  • Learn the concept of coding by sequencing instructions and commands such as move forward, backward, turn left, turn right, etc. using one’s own body as the robot
  • Learn to associate between concrete body movements with abstract symbols such as arrows
  • Progress towards using a sequence of placards with symbols (such as forward arrow or turn left arrow) to represent the movements (coding). Then execute the code using one’s body

    Simple Programming

    • Learn to programme robots using a tap pen and programming cards to execute the instructions
    • Learn to associate between concrete body movements with abstract symbols such as arrows
    • Learn to create new programming challenges

      Thinking Skills

      • Learn to think logically and sequentially
      • Learn to problem-solve and overcome simple obstacles
      • Recognise patterns (pattern recognition)
      • Once a week for 10 weeks (60 mins per lesson)
      • Sat | 9.15am – 10.15am
      • Minimum 5 children to start class
